Advancing Animal Welfare: Ahold Delhaize USA Year-End Progress Update

March 2026

In alignment with our purpose to support healthy communities and a healthy planet, Ahold Delhaize USA is committed to advancing animal welfare through transparent and measurable actions. This update summarizes our progress to date for the animal welfare targets announced in December 2024. Our work is delivering results, and we are committed to continued progress.

Cage-Free Eggs
As previously communicated, Ahold Delhaize USA has developed detailed, year-by-year plans tailored to each brand to meet our 2030 goal of 70% cage-free egg unit sales, with full conversion by 2032. Ahold Delhaize USA continues to advance its cage-free egg strategy amid industry-wide supply chain challenges. For a number of years, 100% of stores across all Ahold Delhaize USA brands have offered cage-free egg options, and we are continuing to increase our cage-free assortment. In addition, 65% of our assortment is cage-free, despite supply shortages that occurred earlier in the year from a significant avian flu outbreak and other unplanned supply chain disruptions beyond our control.

Key successes across Ahold Delhaize USA companies in 2025 included:

  • Achieved a 16% increase in cage-free egg unit sales penetration. This resulted in 29% unit sales penetration in 2025, a 4% (or 400 basis points) improvement compared to previously reported results in 2023 and 2024 of 25%. While these numbers reflect total year 2025 results, it is also important to note that in January 2026, we reached 31% cage-free egg unit sales in the U.S., showing continued progress as we focus on executing our plans.
  • Completed customer signage pilot at all U.S. brands in 2025, per our previously disclosed initiative, and all brands completed the rollout of customer signage to all stores.
  • Introduced six new cage-free SKUs within our private brands and national brands assortment, while reducing 10 conventional caged SKUs, which resulted in a total shell egg assortment that is 65% cage-free, up from 61% in 2024, despite supply shortages.

Key actions forward:

  • Advanced plans to further reduce conventional caged SKUs in 2026 and beyond, as we continue to balance progress with affordability, which is critical for our customers.
  • More specifically, we are adding two new interim milestones for 2026 and 2028 in order to further increase transparency toward our goal of 100% cage-free by 2032. For each of our forward milestones we are aiming to achieve the following:
    • In 2026, our goals are a 30% reduction in conventional caged SKUs measured against the 2025 baseline, 35% cage-free unit sales, and 75% cage-free SKU penetration.
    • In 2028, our goals are a 60% reduction in conventional caged SKUs measured against the 2025 baseline, 56% cage-free unit sales, and 85% cage-free SKU penetration.
    • In 2030, our goals are a 75% reduction in conventional caged SKUs measured against the 2025 baseline, 70% cage-free unit sales, and 90% cage-free SKU penetration.
    • In 2032, our goals are a 100% reduction in conventional caged SKUs measured against the 2025 baseline, 100% cage-free unit sales, and 100% cage-free SKU penetration.
      • The 2032 goals for 100% cage-free are subject to WIC compliance in states that are subject to WIC.
  • Ahold Delhaize USA will continue to make progress each year toward meeting these goals and remains committed to reporting its progress annually.
  • Ahold Delhaize USA will continue negotiations with egg suppliers to expand cage-free offerings as part of ongoing supplier engagement and to ensure security of supply needed for our future goals.
  • After conducting pilots in 2025 at each of our local brand stores, we will continue to evolve signage to more clearly identify cage-free egg products by utilizing shelf tags similar to those currently in use at Food Lion. By the end of the third quarter of 2026, the shelf tags will be in place for cage-free eggs at all Ahold Delhaize USA stores.

Going forward, we will continue to evaluate new opportunities to make progress responsibly, balancing supply chain availability, customer demand, and legislation and regulatory compliance with programs like WIC.

Group-Housed Pork
We also continue to progress toward the 2028 goal of 100% group-housed pork for fresh, whole muscle, single-ingredient products. Currently, three of the company's brands are nearing full transition with more than 90% completion. The remaining two brands continue to advance these efforts through supplier collaboration. We anticipate additional progress in 2026 and 2027 as we continue to execute our internal plans to achieve our goals.
